Housing.Yu team on a study trip in London and Stockholm
As part of the study trip, members of the research team of the ERC project Housing.Yu – “The right to housing: the production of everyday living space in Yugoslavia (1945-1991)” visited London and Stockholm in the period from July 5 to 15, 2026.
The program included guided thematic visits by prof. Ph.D. Miles Glendinning, Professor at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the Scottish Center for Heritage Studies across the St. Pancras and Finsbury, author of the book Mass Housing. Modern Architecture and State Power – a Global History (Bloomsbury Visual Arts, 2021) and meetings with British researchers – historian John Boughton, author of the book Municipal Dreams: the Rise and Fall of Council Housing (Verso, 2018), and Thaddeus Zupančič, author of the book London Estates: Modern Council Housing 1946-1981 (FUEL, 2024).
Field trips in London (5–9 July), with expert guidance from Dr. Miles Glendinning and Dr. Lidija Butković Mićin, covered housing estates, buildings and family homes built in the period from the 1940s to the 1980s in Roehampton (Alton East and Alton West), Kensington, Camden (Alexandra Road), King’s Cross, Islington, Finsbury (Spa Green Estate), City (Golden Lane and Barbican), Southwark, Camberwell, Lambeth, Pimlico (Churchill Gardens), Bethnal Green and Poplar.
In Stockholm (10–15 July), under the expert guidance of assistant Hana Bečeić in collaboration with Martina Malešič and Lidija Butković Mićin, the team visited the collective housing buildings at John Ericssonsgatan no. 6 and Hässelby familjehotell and the residential areas Reimersholme, Gröndal, Årsta and Tanto, Vällingby, Södra Ängby and Ålstensgatan, Farsta, Danviksklippan, Karrtorp and Tensta, built between the 1930s and 1980s.
During the study trip, the team members visited several museum institutions in London (Museum of the Home, V&A East Storehouse, Barbican Centre, The Design Museum) and Stockholm (Stadsmuseet i Stockholm, Statens Historiska Museer / Economy Museum, ArkDes – Swedish Centre for Architecture and Skansen, a museum of traditional rural residential architecture in Sweden).
