Presentation of the Book “Aleksander Laslo: Zagreb – Architecture, Architects”
On 16 September 2026, the book Aleksander Laslo: Zagreb – Architecture, Architects, edited by Dr Tamara Bjažić Klarin and published by the Institute of Art History in 2025, was presented at the Zagreb Society of Architects.
Before a full audience, the introductory remarks were delivered by Dr Petar Prelog, Scientific Advisor and President of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Art History, on behalf of the Director of the Institute of Art History and Academician Dr Katarina Horvat-Levaj. The book was presented by Dr Irena Kraševac, Scientific Advisor at the Institute of Art History, who highlighted the importance of Aleksander Laslo as an architect, theorist, and architectural conservationist, as well as the significance of his writings.
The book’s editor, Dr Tamara Bjažić Klarin, presented the circumstances and process behind its creation and expressed her gratitude to the institutions, collaborators, and everyone whose work, support, and patience contributed to bringing the publication to fruition.
Professor Emeritus Dr Ákos Moravánszky spoke about the importance of collecting and publishing texts of this kind for the study of architecture and its history, and also recalled his collegial relationship with Aleksander Laslo. The presentation concluded with Dr Dražen Juračić, Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb. Accompanied by a presentation featuring personal photographs and memories, Juračić spoke about how he first met Aleksander Laslo, recalled his witty and distinctive personality, and portrayed him through personal anecdotes and memories of the people with whom he spent time.
The book “Aleksander Laslo: Zagreb – Architecture, Architects” brings together selected writings by one of the most prominent chroniclers of Zagreb’s architecture and architectural scene, offering valuable insight into the city’s architecture, its authors, and Zagreb’s broader cultural context.
