From 22 to 24 October 2026, the Public Open University Zagreb hosted the international conference Right to Housing: Projects, Policies, and Knowledge Exchange after the Second World War. It was organized by the Institute of Art History and CKPIS, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, within the ERC project Housing.Yu.
The programme featured two keynote lectures, by Miles Glendinning (University of Edinburgh) and Marija Drėmaitė (Vilnius University), and 24 papers across seven sessions. Researchers from institutions in sixteen countries discussed housing policies, mass housing, construction systems, housing as a social right, and residents’ agency. The case studies ranged from Yugoslav cities to London, Amsterdam, Greece, Galicia, Silesia, and Lithuania. The conference closed on Saturday with a guided tour of modernist housing estates in Zagreb and New Zagreb.
The conference produced a wealth of new insights and raised questions that will shape the project’s further work. It was also an exceptionally valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues working on these topics across Europe. We thank all speakers, session chairs, and audience members, as well as the Public Open University Zagreb for its hospitality.
